Kemi Nandap: The New Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service

Background and Early Life

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently approved the appointment of DCG Kemi Nanna Nandap as the new Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) starting from March 1, 2024. This decision came after the conclusion of Mrs. Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju’s term on February 29, 2024, as announced by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser.

The switch from Mrs. Adepoju to DCG Nandap signifies a significant change in NIS leadership, showcasing President Tinubu’s confidence in Nandap’s abilities.

Born on June 3, 1966, in Zaria, Kaduna, Kemi Nandap’s journey began with a focus on academics, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin, reflecting her dedication to scholarly pursuits.

Career Progression

Prior to her role as Comptroller-General, Nandap held the position of Deputy Comptroller-General, where she supervised the Migration Directorate of the NIS. Her career growth underscores her commitment and expertise in immigration affairs.

Nandap’s professional journey through various senior roles includes stints as Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) for Zone C, Officer-In-Charge (O/C) of Investigation and Compliance, O/C Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and African Affairs. She has also served as Deputy Comptroller at Nasarawa Command and Comptroller at NIS Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, among other positions.

During her tenure as Comptroller at NIS MMIA, Nandap played a crucial role in overseeing immigration operations at one of Nigeria’s busiest international airports.

Accomplishments and Leadership Style

Abdullahi Dalhatu’s retirement, alongside five other officers, marked a generational shift in NIS leadership, paving the way for Nandap to assume the role of Comptroller-General.

Her leadership at the Plateau Command left a lasting impact on infrastructure and human capital development. Through her dedicated efforts, positive changes were witnessed during her leadership. Having been deployed to various regions including Lagos, Ogun, Anambra, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commands, and NIS headquarters in Abuja, Nandap has gained a comprehensive understanding of immigration challenges and dynamics across different locations.

President Tinubu’s endorsement solidifies Nandap’s position as the Comptroller-General, and she has commenced her duties at the NIS MMIA in Lagos State. With her extensive experience, she now leads the service with expertise and knowledge.
